VISITATION POLICY AND PROCEDURES
Pursuant to Florida Statute S. 408.823 and related regulatory guidance
A. Permitted In-Person Visitation Scenarios
Windermere ALF permits in-person visitation in the following scenarios, regardless of vaccination status:
- End-of-Life Situations
- Emotional Support & Compassionate Care: Adjustment difficulties, emotional distress, or when the physical presence of loved ones enhances well-being.
- Grief and Loss: After the death of a close family member or friend.
- Assistance with Eating/Drinking: When the resident has previously relied on caregiver/family encouragement.
- Social Withdrawal: Notable decline in communication or interaction.
- Major Medical Decisions: When facing critical health decisions.
B. Compassionate Caregiver Designation
Each resident may designate a compassionate caregiver—a friend, family member, or guardian—authorized for at least two hours of daily visitation. Designated visits occur between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM.
C. General Visitation Rights
- All residents are entitled to daily visitation from loved ones between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM.
- Visit Length: Up to 2 hours per visit.
- Number of Visitors: Up to two individuals per visit, unless more is allowed by license or care needs.
- Scheduling Flexibility: Visit times may be adjusted upon request of the resident or family.
D. Infection Control & Visitor Education
- Visitor Education: Information on proper hygiene, respiratory etiquette, and infection precautions is made available upon entry and posted in common areas.
- Screening Protocols: All visitors are screened for symptoms (e.g., fever, cough, respiratory issues) upon arrival.
- PPE and Hygiene:
- Masks and hand sanitizers are provided at entry stations.
- PPE (as per CDC guidance) is required for any visitor showing mild symptoms or with known exposure.
- Symptomatic visitors are not permitted unless cleared by a medical authority.
- Designated Visitation Area: A private, sanitized space is available to ensure safe and respectful visitation.
- Room Entry: Allowed for bedridden residents or those under isolation.
E. Visitor Rights and Protections
- Visitors cannot be compelled to show proof of vaccination or immunization status.
- Consensual physical contact (e.g., handholding, hugging) is permitted when initiated or agreed to by the resident.
F. Staff Responsibility and Oversight
Facility administrator Tesfa Bahta, PharmD, is responsible for staff training and enforcement of visitation policies to ensure resident rights and family access are respected. All staff are trained to uphold these standards with professionalism and compassion.
G. Visitor Expectations & Consequences
Visitors must comply with posted policies. Any visitor who refuses screening or violates protocols may be denied entry or face temporary suspension of visitation privileges. This ensures the protection of all residents and staff.
